Debate Society

Do you enjoy arguing? How about discussions on a wide range of topics ranging from politics, economics, and the arts to philosophy and relationships? Are you looking to improve your rhetoric and critical thought for Model UN, your career, to win arguments, or simply because it's fun?

Come by. Whether you want to improve your skills and be part of competitions, or you just want to hang out and discuss issues that are important to you. We are open to all levels, and look forward to seeing you :)

What is debate?
TLDR: A competition where teams of 2-3 speakers each are assigned differing sides of an issue, for which they must argue against eachother. A judge then decides on the winning team, and it starts all over again.

If you're still a bit confused, fret not; come by and we will be happy to explain the basics.

Some practical information:
- Wednesday 5th module is a provisionally chosen time, we are open to changing it if it suits the club.
- For those with some experience, note that we debate in the British Parliament (BP) and World Schools Debating Championship (WSDC) formats
- If you're interested and want to see what the world of debate is all about before you join, check out these two amazing debates in WSDC and BP format respectively:
